Victor Horta (1861-1947)

He was one of the leading figures of the modern architectural movement in Belgium and a promoter of Art Nouveau. He tried to liberate Belgian architecture from its neoclassical and neogothic heritage. He wanted to impress architecture with freedom and logic by using contemporary techniques and materials like glass and metal. (opposite: Hôtel van Etvelde in Brussels)
