Charles-Joseph de Ligne (1735-1814)

After having led a full and prosperous life at his Beloeil residence and most of Europe's courts, he was practically ruined and had to flee to Vienna in 1794. He accepted his fate with quiet resignation and dedicated himself to literature. This enlightened spirit opposed all prejudice (especially anti-semitism).
